Water is the most important element of life. 70 % to 80 % of the human body contains water. Life itself is sustained by water. The better the quality of water the better the quality of our lives.
 

The RIWO - SAN technology was developed in the mid 70's. resulting in a new class of environmentally friendly disinfectants highly effective against bacteria, fungi, algae, viruses and other protozoa. Unlike traditional disinfectants tending to yield persistent toxins, RIWO ­ SAN products are fully degradable and do not leave residues which could be harmful to humans, animals or the environment.   What is needed is a new generation of water disinfecting technologies. For too long we have depended upon chlorine and other hazardous substances like formaldehyde and phenol.   These substances are used to condition our drinking water, to preserve food and are presently applied in breweries, in the beverage industry. They are also widely used in swimming-pools and hospitals.

Currently many of the traditional chemical disinfectants are based on halogen related processes of which the use of chlorine in drinking water is most common. Other disinfectants exist in form of aldehydes, alcohol, phenols, tensides, quats, etc...
 

Their problems are many. Apart from the usual unpleasant taste and odor there are many environmental, health and safety issues related to the application of these chemicals as disinfectants.  Traditional chemicals usually pollute the medium which they disinfect.   They produce toxins which are difficult to decompose into harmless components or do not decompose at all. Many of the by-products are alleged to be carcinogens or mutagens

The RIWO-SAN method has been developed over the last twenty years. It is a process which offers the possibility of stabilizing Hydrogen Peroxide, an element which is safe for humans and the environment. The products which have emerged are considered by many as trial blazing alternatives to all other disinfectants.
 

Today's medical and scientific advances have revealed many products which were once considered safe, now to be harmful and hazardous. In recent years research has discovered the negative effects which asbestos and CFC have on our health and the environment. Both substances once widely used are now being condemned and banned by the world community.

Chlorine is another such product. It is still widely applied as a disinfectant, thoughit has been discovered to be a live dangering, poisonous substance. Even in small amounts it has toxic effects and many people coming into contact with chlorine become allergic and suffer illness due to prolonged exposure.

Fresh, unpolluted water is an increasingly rare commodity. Measures to protect this precious asset have already been taken, but we can all do more. It is our responsibility to preserve this source of live for us and future generations.

It was clear that in order to create a new type of disinfectants, non of the existing or traditional chemical formulas could be used if the known problems were to be avoided. The forward was to be found in the group of oxygen decomposive disinfectants.
 

Focus was placed on two basic compounds, Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) and Silver (Ag +). When these two compounds are processed using the RIWO-SAN technology and applied in prescribed quantities, the result is a longer lasting disinfectant.  Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is an oxidizing agent with powerful disinfectant properties. It is a substance which transforms into harmless oxygen and pure water (H2O) when emitting oxygen.   Within the food industry, Hydrogen Peroxide is widely applied as an additive and bleaching agent.It is used extensively to decontaminate and purify industrial sewage and exhaust air. However it is concentrated from Hydrogen Peroxide, when used in the sterilization process of water, tends to be fairly unstable.

It was a high sensitive to increases in temperature, is sensitive to sunlight and UV-rays and thus not suitable for preventing recontamination of the treated water.The RIWO - SAN technology stabilizes the reaction of Hydrogen Peroxide using a unique silverformulation. Highly diluted silver solutions have an algicidal effect on vegetation such as algae and bacteria. This effect is known as oligodynamic effect.
 

This formula has several advantages over the commonly used water disinfectants.   RIWO - SAN is odorless, causes no eye irritation and does not produce chloramines or other irritating water substances.   It is also very efficient at high water temperatures and has long lasting bacteriostatic effectiveness thus preventing re-germination and re-contamination.   The level of silver in the treaded water is at least 10 to 20 times below commonly accepted drinking water guidelines world-wide.  The unique RIWO - SAN process combines the complementary effects of the environmentally acceptable products in water disinfecting. The result is an impressive magnification of the attributes of each of the individual products in water disinfecting.

Combining oxidation oligodynamics has resulted in a product capable of destroying bio-film. Hydrogen Peroxide oxidizes the bio-film which then enable the silverions to penetrate and eliminate the bacteria and virus.
 

The RIWO-SAN products have been subject to rigorous short and long term testing to exceedingly high standards and stringent criteria by recognized independent laboratories . The excellent disinfecting properties of the product supported by independent testing, have resulted in the authorization for unrestricted use in all fields of application granted in many countries. Large scale international studies have confirmed that these products are superior as content and surface disinfectants.
